Contribution Statement Basics
Contribution statements are a required part of operating as a nonprofit or church. Not only are they a requirement of the IRS, they are fundamental to the transparency that drives the impact of your organization. They are also an important form of communication with those who support your mission.
Contribution statements must be postmarked by January 31 in the US, but don’t wait to get started! Many of the steps outlined in this course can be completed in advance, allowing you to get a jump on preparation to spread out your workload over several weeks.
This course will walk you through the steps you need to prepare and send your statements based on the order most organizations follow when creating their contribution statements in Aplos. If you don’t have an Aplos account yet, start your free trial so you can follow along.
Before you get started, you will want to make sure the following tasks have been completed:
- Make sure all your donations have been entered into Aplos. If you need assistance, visit our resource on donation tracking to get all of your donations entered prior to completing this course.
- Update your organization’s information in your Aplos settings, including your correct address, tax ID, and logo. All of these fields will appear on your contribution statements.
